Jürgen Klinsmann’s men’s national soccer team kicked off their Asian qualifying campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup North America with a 5-0 win over Singapore on Saturday.

Next up is China. South Korea travels to China on Nov. 21 for the second leg of the qualifiers.

China kicked off the 2026 FIFA World Cup North America qualifiers on a high note with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Thailand on Saturday, but the soccer gap between the two countries remains.

South Korea has the absolute upper hand with 22 wins, 12 draws, and two losses in 36 previous meetings with China. The most recent loss came in March 2017 during the final qualifying round for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. South Korea lost 0-1 and have since gone unbeaten in four games against China (3 wins, 1 draw).

While it’s expected to be a tough away match, Klinsmann’s men have been on a roll with four straight wins in A matches. They’ve scored multiple goals in three straight games, including against Singapore, and are finding their attacking touch.

After the Singapore match, captain Son Heung-min said, “I think every moment of soccer is going to be rough. Whenever we play a strong team, we say, ‘Let’s make it rough’. When we play against Asian countries, I think it can be their tactic to make us angry and frustrated. As far as those plays go, I think we just have to play our game and not get caught up in it too much. Just because they’re China, we don’t have to think about anything else, we just have to play our game.”
