Fans are excited for the ‘Korean Derby’. Son Heung-min (31) and Hwang Hee-chan (27) will face off for the first time this season.
Tottenham and Wolverhampton will meet at 9:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 11 at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton, England, in the 12th round of the 2023-2024 English Premier League (EPL) season. Tottenham currently sits in second place with 26 points (8 W, 2 D, 1 L), while Wolverhampton is 14th with 12 points (3 W, 3 D, 5 L).
This is the first meeting between the two teams this season. The main attraction is the matchup between South Korean internationals Son Heung-min and Hwang Hee-chan. The excitement and anticipation among Korean fans is at an all-time high for the first “Korean Derby” in the EPL.
The main focus of the match will be to see which of Son Heung-min and Hwang Hee-chan will score a goal. Both have had ‘epic’ starts to their seasons and have been on a scoring tear. Son has scored eight goals this season, second only to Manchester City’s “goal machine” Elling Holland (11). Hwang Hee-chan is also tied for sixth with six goals. It’s encouraging to see two South Korean players in the top 10 in the EPL, one of the best leagues in the world. Son Heung-min, in particular, is well on his way to repeating as the league’s top scorer for the second time in two years, having won the title in the 2021-2022 season.
Heung-min has been a goal firecracker this season after switching positions from flanker to frontline striker. Tottenham manager Enze Postecoglou saw in Son a solution to the loss of Harry Kane, who had long been the team’s “gunslinger,” to Bayern Munich. Starting against Burnley in the fourth round, he switched Son to a frontline role instead of the traditional flank. It was a so-called “son top” move. After going scoreless in rounds 1-3, Heung-min scored eight goals, including a hat trick against Burnley, followed by goals against Arsenal, Liverpool, Fulham, and Crystal Palace.
Against Chelsea, he rattled the net with an exquisite non-stop strike early in the first half, only to be denied a goal by video assistant referee (VAR). In the 12th minute, Brennan Johnson’s low cross from the left flank was met by Son Heung-min with a directionless non-stop shot, but Son was ruled offside because his body was slightly ahead of the ball. Son gestured in frustration. With two players sent off, Tottenham tried an unconventional tactic of attacking with all hands, and they missed a great chance to equalize in the last minute of the second half when Son Heung-min’s shot from the arc circle was blocked by the goalkeeper. In the end, Spurs were unable to overcome their numerical disadvantage and fell to Chelsea 1-4. 보스토토
Tottenham lost more than just the game against Chelsea. Their starting center back, Micky Vanderven, went down with an injury, while Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were sent off. James Maddison, who had been a creative force in Tottenham’s offense, is also out with an ankle injury. It will be interesting to see if the team’s captain, Son Heung-min, can pick up the pieces and lead the team back to form.
