Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg plans to continue to compete for a starting spot.
Tottenham Hotspur’s back three this season seems to be set in stone with Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr. They were chosen by new manager Enze Postecoglou for their high work rate, ability to get forward with the ball, and passing ability, in addition to the defensive qualities that he looks for in his third-choice options. They also have a lot of opportunities to shine as Rodrigo Bentancur, a similar type of player, is still rehabbing from the cruciate ligament injury he suffered last season.
The performances of Bissouma and Sarr have pushed Hojbjerg out of the starting lineup. He was Antonio Conte’s first choice last season, but he has lost his place under Postecoglou. He is a very active player and has good defensive skills, but he lacks the forward ability that Postecoglou requires. This was a key reason why he lost his starting spot to Bissouma and Sarr. Hojbjerg has played most of his games as a substitute this season.
What’s more, if Bentancur returns, his place will likely shrink even further. As mentioned earlier, Bentancur is a player who, like Bissouma and Sarr, is both active and capable of getting forward. Last season, Tottenham’s midfield operated in a similar fashion, with Hojbjerg protecting the defense and Bentancur supporting the attack. But now, instead of being Bentancur’s partner, Hojbjerg will have to compete with him for a starting spot. 메이저놀이터
Despite this, Hojbjerg is not giving up the fight for the starting job. In a recent interview with Danish outlet Extra Vladet, when asked about the tough competition for a starting spot this season, he said, “I’m staying focused. I can do something. I have to be ready to help the team when the coach calls me. So I focus on training, I try to maintain my performance,” he said, adding that he is ready to play at any time.
Hojbjerg is pleased with the way Tottenham are playing this season, despite the fact that he is starting fewer games. “We are playing a new style of football compared to last season, and we have a new coaching staff. It’s going really well. “We’re in a good position in the league and we’re showing good form, even though it’s only the beginning of the season.
