Can Son Heung-min win another Premier League (PL) Player of the Month award?
Tottenham manager Enze Postecoglou started the season with the Frenchman as his primary striker. However, he failed to find the back of the net in the league and failed to integrate into the team’s tactics. Eventually, Postecoglou replaced him with Son Heung-min as the striker.
Postecoglou’s tactical change was a stroke of genius. Son soared, scoring a hat trick in his first game as a striker against Burnley. It was a move that satisfied Postecoglou, Tottenham fans, and Son.
He was quiet again in the next game against Sheffield United, but in the North London derby against Arsenal on April 24, Heung-min soared again. His goal-scoring prowess from the striker’s spot was insane, and he rescued his team from crisis after crisis. With five goals in three games, only Heung-min and Holland have more goals in September in the PL. It’s safe to say that no other player has done it better.
At this rate, Heung-min could be in the running for the September Player of the Month award from the PL secretariat. At the very least, he’ll be on the shortlist. If Heung-min wins the PL Player of the Month award for September, it will be another milestone for him in the PL.
Now in his ninth season in the PL, Son has been named PL Player of the Month three times. In September 2016, April 2017, and October 2020. Only 25 players in the history of the PL have won more than three Player of the Month awards, which began in the 1994-95 season. Heung-min is one of them.
If he wins one more, he will join the ranks of only 15 players in PL history who have won four or more Player of the Month awards. It would also be a first for an Asian player. 토토사이트
