Lee Young-pyo says he expected Park Jin-seob’s intentional yellow card as “a chance to steal”

KBS soccer commentator Lee Young-pyo predicts that Park Jin-seop, a wildcard (player over the age of 24) on the Asian Games team, will receive an intentional yellow card.

Hwang Sun-hong’s Asian Games team scored four goals in the first half to cruise to a 4-0 victory over Thailand in the second match of their men’s football Group E match at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games at the Jinhua Sports Center Stadium in China at 8:30 p.m. KST on Wednesday.

With the win, South Korea matched their 9-0 win over Kuwait in the first round with two wins to clinch first place in the group and an early berth in the round of 16 without having to play Bahrain in the third round.

An interesting moment occurred in the sixth minute of the game. Park Jin-seop, a central defender, stepped up to take a corner kick and instead of taking the ball, he lingered on the ground. It was a very strange scene, and the referee went to Park Jin-seob and gave him a yellow card, and Park Jin-seob immediately walked away without taking the corner kick.

It was an intentional yellow card. After receiving a yellow card against Kuwait, Park intentionally took advantage of the rule that a player cannot play the next game after receiving two cautions during the tournament. This meant that he would not be able to play against Bahrain in the third round, but he could still play in the round of 16 if he received a yellow card. Park intentionally picked up a yellow card so that he could play in a tournament match without the risk of a suspension, rather than the third game, since he had already clinched first place in the group.

Park even admitted to the media after the game that the yellow card was intentional. 레모나토토

One person who predicted Park’s behavior was KBS commentator Lee Young-pyo. During the first half’s extra time, Lee said, “If you say we have a 4-0 lead, then the one card that Park Jin-seop has could be a chance to steal it from us.”

Later, when Park Jin-seob was shown a yellow card on purpose, Lee Young-pyo added, “When you go to a tournament with one game off after receiving a yellow card on purpose, every card is very important.”

Lee also anticipated the yellow card tactic.
