Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino explains his team’s 12-man injury list amid a string of poor results.
Chelsea drew 0-0 with Bournemouth in the fifth round of the English Premier League (EPL) at the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth, England on Sunday (Sept. 17). Chelsea remains 14th in the league with one win, two draws, and two losses (five points).
Chelsea made 12 signings in the summer transfer window. Moises Caicedo, Christophe Nkunku, Romelu Lahvi, Cole Palmer, Axel Disassi, and Nikola Jackson are among the new arrivals. Existing resources such as Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, and N’Golo Kante left the club. Chelsea spent a total of €462.1 million ($653.6 million) in the transfer market.
They also hired Mauricio Pochettino, who had great success at Tottenham Hotspur, but the results so far have been less than stellar. Chelsea is currently underperforming in the league with one win, two draws, and two losses. Even their one win came against bottom-of-the-table Luton Town.
The failure to win against Bournemouth left fans fuming. Chelsea hit the post twice before settling for a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth. After the game, Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell approached the Chelsea away end and raised his hands in apology, but the fans booed him in unison. 메이저놀이터
Pochettino defended the attitude of Chelsea fans in his post-match interview, saying, “When you invest money, you have expectations. It’s natural for them to be unhappy when they don’t win,” he admitted. “What I can say to the fans is that it’s a situation we can’t change. We have too many injuries. We are a team that can be strong together.”
Pochettino continued, “We know what we have to do. We have a strong belief in ourselves, but we have 12 injuries. Today we had three or four young players on the bench and two goalkeepers. Should I cry, should I complain? I have to accept this situation, this challenge and continue to be positive,” he added.
