Chelsea has finally embraced Moises Caicedo.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Ecuador international Caicedo,” Chelsea said on the club’s website on Friday. He has agreed to sign an eight-year contract with a one-year option,” the club said in an official statement.
“I’m really happy to join Chelsea, I’m thrilled to be at this club and I didn’t have to think twice when they approached me. Moving to Chelsea is a dream come true and I can’t wait to get started with the Blues.”
Chelsea snapped up Caicedo after a bidding war with Liverpool. Shortly after the summer transfer window opened, 스포츠토토 Chelsea were in talks with Brighton to sign Caido, but as the tug-of-war between the two clubs dragged on, Liverpool entered the race for Caido with a big-money bid. At the time, Liverpool’s offer to Brighton was £110 million ($185.9 million). It was the highest transfer fee in the history of the English Premier League (EPL), and Brighton promptly accepted the offer. Brighton’s stance remained the same. The plan was to sell Caicedo if an offer of more than £100 million (approximately $169 billion) came in. Unless Chelsea offered a higher fee, the outcome of the private negotiations meant that Liverpool would have the player.
Chelsea didn’t give up. They offered Brighton a transfer fee of £115 million (approximately N194.4 billion), which was slightly higher than Liverpool’s offer. Negotiations went smoothly, as Caido wanted to join Chelsea, not Liverpool, and in the end, Chelsea beat Liverpool to the signing of Caido.
Chelsea have not officially announced the transfer fee, but it is estimated to be £115 million, according to a report by David Onstine of The Athletic. It is also reported that Kaysedo’s contract includes a sell-on clause.
Caicedo joins Chelsea as the highest transfer fee in EPL history. Chelsea broke the EPL’s record for the highest transfer fee when they signed Enzo Fernandes last winter, and now they’ve done it again, about seven months later.
